Our proposal focuses on understanding and spatializing the systems of water resource management because understanding the system makes it possible to change and optimize it.

We would like to try to create as full a picture as possible first of the Dutch existing water system (using the subthemes defined by the global brief and categorizing them as to on which level (local, regional or (inter)national they are governed, where are the connections and interdependencies), then doing the same with the Ukrainian water system and then comparing the two in order to come up with an optimal 3rd system which will learn from the two and take EU sustainability goals as a point of departure. Our aim is not completeness (which would be impossible in the timeframe) but gaining of understanding of what we know and what we don’t know – where the question marks (future research questions) are. The products we aim to achieve are mindmaps/ infographics of the systems, building blocks (axonometric diagrams) spatializing some of the (innovative) solutions and possibly a 4 axis matrix (scale x authority x time x sustainability goals) on which the building blocks can be plotted. As both The Netherlands and Ukraine have rivers, seas and inland waters combined with urban and rural conditions, we feel that our research will benefit not only these two countries but pretty much any country in the world.

Our group will be interviewing experts, doing a lot of online research, processing complex information visually (we love pretty and informative graphics that make their subject matter shine) and intensively discussing and sketching, all while having a really good time. We like to work smart, not hard. This is why we use our brains, our pens, data and digital tools.

Elena Chevtchenko
was born and raised in Ukraine and has lived and worked in The Netherlands for over 20 years. She is an integral designer (architecture, landscape and urban design) who believes that densifying only makes sense around quality: good public green and water, amenities and public transport.
Currently she is working on a better world at PosadMaxwan strategy + design doing complex projects with a focus on development of integral cooperation methods (for multiple stakeholders, themes and scales), and the interactive digital instruments to support them, as well as pushing hard for the rebuilding of Ukraine as a model EU state through UNUN: Ukraine Netherlands Urban Network.
She believes in doing less, better, loves Futurama and the Japanese concept of “Ma”.

Nazar Gresko
Nazar Gresko, born in Ukraine, was educated both in Ukraine (National Academy of Fine Arts & Architecture) and The Netherlands (Eindhoven University of Technologies), holding master's degrees both in Architecture and Urban Design & Planning. Since 2017 Nazar has worked on the projects of various scales and complexities in renowned Dutch design studios. With a combined background in architecture and urban design, Nazar focuses on the intangible dialogue of [un]built environment with the urban fabrics. He is keen in speculating on possible futures, cities, infrastructures and their relationship with the natural environment. Nazar believes in haptic and sensorial approach where sometimes the absence of design can be a best solution.
